Phoenix Motorcars Shares EV Testimony with US Senate Energy Committee

ONTARIO, Calif., Sept. 17, 2008 -Phoenix Motorcars, a California-based electric vehicle company, presented testimony to the US Senate Energy Committee yesterday. The Energy Committee Chairman, Senator Jeff Bingaman, D-NM, invited Phoenix Motorcars to its hearing to give testimony on the current state of electric vehicles and the prospects for wider deployment in the near future.

Electric vehicles like the Phoenix SUT are a game changer, Thad Balkman, Vice President of External Relations, shared with the Senate Energy Committee citing the EPA projected rating of 135 mpg, the ability to rapid charge in 10 minutes and the zero emissions of Phoenix electric vehicles. Balkman also gave seven legislative suggestions for the Senators to consider:

    Pass the $7500 tax credit for purchasers of plug ins and lift $7,500 cap for electric vehicles like the Phoenix with high battery capacity;

    Create a 30% investment tax credit for alternative refueling stations;

    Mandate Government fleet purchases of electric vehicles;

    Bring electric vehicles into the Renewable Fuels Standard;

    Include electric vehicles in any future CO2 cap & trade program;

    Create a government-backed battery guarantee program;

    and,

    Increase investment in advanced technologies i.e. battery development.

Other participants on the panel of witnesses were: Brian Wynne - President, Electric Drive Transportation Association; Edward Kjaer - Director, Electric Transportation, Southern California Edison; Robert Wimmer - National Manager of Technical and Regulatory Affairs, Energy and Environmental Research, Toyota Motor, North America; and Joseph Dalum - Vice President, DUECO.
