Audi Takes Quadruple Win in Powercar Sportscar Magazine's Readers Poll
INGOLSTADT/DUSSELDORF – September 10, 2008: Readers of the German specialist sportscar magazine Powercar have spoken: Thanks to its victories in four classes in the Powercar readers poll – achieved by the S3, S5, RS 6 Avant and R8 – Audi has captured the mantle of most successful automobile manufacturer. At the Meilenwerk Düsseldorf forum today, Stephan Reil, Head of Development at quattro GmbH, represented Audi by accepting the awards from Volker Koerdt, editor-in-chief of Powercar and Holger Eckhardt, the magazine’s project manager.
Especially triumphant was the first-place finish of the Audi S5, which, like last year, left the competition trailing by capturing 36.6 percent of readers’ votes in the “sports coupé” category. By garnering 13.4 percent of votes in this same category, the Audi TTS also gave the brand with the four rings second place among twelve competing sports coupés.
Among ten entrants in the “sports car” category, the Audi R8 once again dominated by winning 31.9 percent of votes. In addition, the Audi S3 emulated last year’s emphatic victory among compact cars. It finished ahead of its 16 competitors with 27.2 percent of the vote.
Audi’s quartet of champions was rounded out by the Audi RS 6 Avant in the “full-size class” category. In a field of 17 cars, the RS 6 Avant took almost one third of the votes – which immediately elevated it to top spot in its first year on the market.
Some 10,700 readers participated in the Powercar survey online or by mail. They voted on 152 production vehicles in eleven categories.
