MELBOURNE - August 19, 2008: Mercedes-Benz today announced the opening of a new factory-authorised paint and panel repair workshop.

Located in Port Melbourne, Mercedes-Benz Autobody will commence business from August this year, and will provide first-class paint and panel repairs to both Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and vans.

This new state-of-the-art facility brings together the latest equipment and skills to provide Mercedes-Benz customers with the highest level of care and attention when their pride and joy is damaged. From the smallest blemish to major structural repairs, Mercedes-Benz Autobody will be equipped to restore a car to its correct finish.

Melbourne’s two long-standing authorised Mercedes-Benz paint and panel repair centres, Worrells Motors and Mercedes-Benz Melbourne, have joined forces to produce this all-new purpose-built facility. Customers are certain to be impressed with this immaculate new repair centre, which will utilise a suite of resources designed to optimise the quality and speed of repair work, all designed to preserve the integrity and value of their vehicle investment.

This high-tech repair centre boasts an impressive collection of highlights.

Mercedes-Benz Autobody will have three new spray booths, one big enough to accommodate the largest models from the Mercedes-Benz van range. Situated between these two booths will be a specialised paint mixing room, which will house two computers for the retrieval and calculation of both accurate paint mixing information and formulae to ensure a perfect finish.

Making sure body surfaces are perfect before the application of paint will be five fully drained and ventilated preparation booths.

Even heavily damaged vehicles can be returned to their correct structural form with a number of specialised jig beds to be employed in this new facility.

Ensuring correct pre-repair cleaning and pre-handover detailing will be two carefully designed vehicle washing bays. Able to accommodate all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and even the largest Mercedes-Benz vans, both of these booths have been designed with environmental care in mind. Both will use recycled water as well as rain water collected from the new facility’s roof, and will house it in a dedicated 30,000-litre underground tank.

No detail has been overlooked in the development of this all-new crash repair centre. Even material preservation has been factored into the repair process, with a separate aluminium repair room located onsite to ensure aluminium components are not contaminated with material that could cause corrosion whilst they are being fixed.

The new Mercedes-Benz Autobody will also incorporate two dedicated stations for vehicle computer diagnostics. Naturally, the entire range of specialist tooling needed to ensure every repair is done accurately and according to factory standards will also be on hand, along with dedicated factory-trained technicians skilled in the correct repair of Mercedes-Benz cars and vans.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz Autobody will be open for trading in August and will be located at 51 Wharf Road Port Melbourne.
