Spring Fashion Week to Visit Melbourne's Home of Automotive Style and Luxury
MELBOURNE - August 18, 2008: Australia’s Victorian capital will be alive with activity next month when Melbourne Spring Fashion Week opens, and it will all start in one of the fashion capital’s most unique and stylish settings: Mercedes-Benz Melbourne.
Hot on the heels of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, September 1 will see Melbourne abuzz with a variety of events, starting with the first official fashion parade at Mercedes-Benz Melbourne. This state-of-the-art architectural showpiece will host the latest cutting-edge collections from three leading Australian fashion designers: Aurelio Costarella, Jayson Brunsdon and Gwendolynne.
Located on Melbourne’s Kingsway, the iconic Mercedes-Benz Autohaus dealership will lend a fascinating face to start of MSFW, underlining the German car maker’s long-standing commitment to the world of fashion.
Commenting on the forthcoming opening event, managing director for Mercedes-Benz Cars in Australia, Horst von Sanden, said Mercedes-Benz Melbourne was a fitting location for the start of this important event.
“Elegance, style and design are widely associated with the famous Mercedes-Benz brand, so we’re proud to provide the backdrop for the start of this important event,” said von Sanden.
Melbourne Spring Fashion Week sees more than 80 separate events occurring throughout the Victorian capital including fashion parades, shopping tours, films and millinery workshops.
Highlights for this year’s event include the official evening parades at the Melbourne Town Hall, fashion parades from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and the Victorian Racing Club (VRC) Decjuba Girls’ Day Out, which kicks off the internationally-renowned annual Spring Racing Carnival.
Mercedes-Benz has been committed to fashion for over a decade, establishing itself as an experienced partner of major international fashion platforms. The Stuttgart-based automaker is the title sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks in Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Mexico City, and supports numerous fashion events in Milan, Stockholm, Amsterdam and elsewhere in the world.
True to its name’s Spanish meaning of ‘charm’ or ‘grace,’ Mercedes has always proved its worth through the advanced technology and timelessly elegant design of its vehicles. In fact, even the first automobile to bear the Mercedes brand in 1901 took the market by storm with its extraordinary design. Ever since, the Mercedes-Benz brand has been the embodiment of automotive excellence.
