MANCHESTER - August 13, 2008: Trafford Council in Manchester is now taking delivery of 56 new Citroën commercial vehicles, which have been supplied as part of a 10-year contract with local authority fleet management specialist provider, TransLinc. The vehicles include 28 Citroën Relay 3.5 tonne tippers, four Relay minibuses, five Dispatch Combis and a number of smaller Citroën vans. These new vehicles will be used by Trafford Council on a wide range of activities including general and community transport.

TransLinc recommended Relay 3.5 tonne tippers, with their latest clean and fuel-efficient HDi diesel engines, to replace ageing vehicles at the council’s Street Scene and Waste Services division. The tipper bodies fitted to these vehicles include a mixture of cage and dropside, some with tail lifts - all supplied by Brit Tip. Other features of these vehicles include a separate tool storage compartment and on-board hand washing facilities.

Robert Handyside, Citroën’s commercial vehicle operations manager, comments, “This major Trafford Council order reflects the versatility and choice available in Citroën’s comprehensive LCV range. Local authority and other operators are able to select Citroën LCVs which efficiently match a wide range of operational requirements.”

For daily transport requirements around the borough, TransLinc was tasked with supplying the latest, low emission light commercial vehicles and has provided seven Citroën Dispatch L1H1 vans, 10 Berlingo First vans and three Relay L2H2 vans to support the library services, highway and education departments.

The order also includes five Citroën Dispatch Combis, with up to nine seats and four Citroën Relay minibuses, with up to 15 seats to provide community transport for the council.

Rob Hobson, regional sales manager for TransLinc, said, “We were asked to provide Trafford with new vehicles, quickly, to replace its ageing fleet. The Citroën LCV range fulfilled our requirements, offering the latest technology, best value for money and good availability on all models.”

Trafford Council transport manager Colin Maycroft, added, “We are currently overhauling our whole vehicle fleet. The recent delivery of Citroën models is part of a continued and consistent investment to bring our transport activity up to date.”

Trafford Council’s new Citroëns are expected to cover up to 12,000 miles a year and will be operated on TransLinc five-year, with-maintenance contract hire agreements.
