Keven Wood At Nashville Superspeedway; Looking Toward Motor-Mile

Nashville, TN -Keven Wood’s finish in the Wood Brothers Racing no. 21 U.S. Air Force F-150 didn’t do justice for the run that they had at Nashville Superspeedway in the Toyota Tundra 200. Starting ninth, the no. 21 was involved in an incident early in the race that left the team with a 29th place finish on Saturday, August 9th.

With only a Sprint Cup test session under his belt at Nashville, this was Keven’s first attempt in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at the superspeedway. The weekend started off well when they unloaded in the first practice session on Friday evening as the team kept making gains. Keven ran in the top 10 for most of the session until other trucks began to make qualifying runs. As night and cooler temperatures came into play in the second practice, they began to experience a tight handling race truck. They tried different combinations and with the aid of input by Jon Wood; they made necessary changes for qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Keven qualified in the ninth at the largest track he’d ever run on with a time of 30.564 seconds. When the race commenced on Saturday evening, the truck was handling well as he maintained positions around the top 10. As Keven was running and feeling confident, on lap 42, another race truck hit him in the rear and sent him spinning into the wall in turn three. The incident, would ultimately lead to a severely damaged race truck and end the night early for the no. 21 and finish in the 29th position.

“We got the run that we were looking for; it just ended a little shorter than we had hoped. I had been looking forward to Nashville. It’s the biggest track that I’ve actually been able to race on. We were confident that we had a 14th place truck until we got caught up in that incident.”

“I think testing Nashville in the Sprint Cup Car was the biggest help. Running 200 laps- I didn’t have to learn the line when I went to race. All that I had to do was adjust to driving in deeper and not using nearly as much brake.”

He told me to really think about what I needed and what may be causing the issue. I did that and we were able to fix the issue for qualifying.”

During this off week for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Keven will be racing at the Motor-Mile Speedway in Radford, VA Saturday August 16th at 7:00pm in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series. He’s looking forward to getting back into his late-model race car. He said, “I’m really pumped coming back to Motor-Mile this weekend based on how well we ran there on August 2nd. We qualified 8th and figured out some issues on that and fixed them. It really showed- we were passing cars and we were really coming. I’m looking forward to going back and seeing how it goes.”
