ROLLE, SCHWITZERLAND - August 5, 2008: Nissan has reported 53,162 sales in Europe in July representing an increase of 11% year on year. A total of 393,965 units have been sold since January 2008, up by 22% compared to the previous year.

Nissan is experiencing strong growth with sales over 20% ahead of last year; coming from both Eastern & Western Europe despite strong economic headwinds.

Simon Thomas, SVP sales and marketing for Nissan in Europe commented, “This increase is due to a number of strong model performances. In particular, Qashqai continues to be very strong and we are still unable to supply to demand despite significant production increases. Also, our year on year sales increase for X-Trail is a great result in the current market situation. Improving performances of Note, Tiida and Micra have also made a significant contribution to Nissan’s growth so far this year.”

Key Highlights:

  • Having recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, the Micra sold 6,900 units in July – a credible performance despite fierce competition in the B-segment.
  • The X-Trail continues to outperform its predecessor with 4,832 units sold in July.
  • The demand for Qashqai continues with 17,514 units sold in July, up 42% against last year.
  • The Tiida model sold 4,021 units in July and has sold almost 30,000 units since January.
  • Russia, Portugal and the Netherlands saw strong performances in July with 14,630 units (+40%), 946 units (+42%) and 1,237 units (+25%) respectively compared to the previous year.
