HANOVER - June 25, 2008: The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand reports a rise in deliveries worldwide of light and heavy commercial vehicles by 13.2 per cent to 216,133 and thus confirms record results for the year to date, i.e. January to May 2008.

”Never before in a comparable period have we sold as many commercial vehicles as we did in the first five months of this year,” says Stephan Schaller, CEO of the brand. “Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ course in 2008 is undeniably one of sustained growth.”

In Europe, sales in the period January to May 2008 were up by ten per cent to 144,243 units, of which 124,091 were recorded for Western Europe (plus seven per cent) and 20,152 for Eastern Europe (plus 33.5 per cent). Deliveries in Germany rose by 7.1 per cent to 49,188 vehicles, with the most notable growth of 13.7 per cent recorded for the month of May.

“What drove this growth aside from the Transporter, were, above all, the Caddy and the Crafter,” emphasises Harald Schomburg, member of the board of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for sales and marketing. These particular series achieved the following individual results:

  • Caddy: 63,400 deliveries worldwide (plus 16.9 per cent)
  • Transporter and Multivan: 79,400 deliveries worldwide (plus 3.3 per cent)
  • Crafter: 22,000 deliveries worldwide (plus 36.2 per cent).
