INDIANAPOLIS, Monday, June 23, 2008 – Country music legends The Charlie Daniels Band will perform Sunday, July 27 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.
Popular Sony BMG Nashville recording artist Craig Morgan will serve as opening act for the pre-race entertainment, which will take place on the infield stage located behind the Hall of Fame Museum at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Morgan is scheduled to take the stage at 10 a.m. (ET), while The Charlie Daniels Band will appear at noon. The entertainment is free for all Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Race Day ticket holders.
The Charlie Daniels Band’s mix of southern rock and country music has made singer/songwriter/fiddle player Daniels an icon of the music industry.
Daniels began touring as a musician in 1959, but with the formation of The Charlie Daniels Band in the early 1970s, Daniels was propelled to superstardom with hits such as “Uneasy Rider” (1973), “The South’s Gonna Do It Again” (1975) and the crossover mega-hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” (1979), which was a No. 1 country single, No. 3 on the popular music charts and earned a Grammy Award.
The song also pushed sales of the band’s album, “Million Mile Reflections,” to triple-platinum status.
Morgan’s most recent album, “A Little Bit of Life,” was released in 2006 and featured three top-10 hits, “Little Bit of Life,” “Tough” and “International Harvester.”
He spent 10 years on active duty in the U.S. Army before launching his music career with his debut album in 2000. Since then he has enjoyed massive radio play with hits such as “Almost Home” – named Music Row Song of the Year in 2003 – and No. 1 hits “Redneck Yacht Club” and “That's What I Love About Sunday,” named Billboard magazine’s “Most Played Country Song of the Year” in 2005.
