Rain-Filled Race at Mid-Ohio Leaves Team TELMEX with Top-10 Finish

LEXINGTON, Ohio -The No.01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) Lexus Riley piloted by Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas battled through a rain and caution-filled timed two-hour forty-five minute EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with a conservative driving strategy that enabled the duo to score a top-10 finish and retain their lead in the championship points race.

Rojas started from fourth place on the grid on slick tires and changed to rain tires through the end of the race. With 37 of 76 total laps consumed by cautions, Rojas steered away from trouble and was able to lead 22 of the first 33 laps in the race. Pruett assumed the helm on lap 48 and was forced to keep a rain set-up on the car despite the clearing weather conditions. Pruett navigated the car into the top-10 and finished in eighth place as the event finished under caution.

Pruett and Rojas currently lead the Rolex Series driver and team championship race with 225 points, 37 markers over the No.99 car of Fogarty/Gurney (188).

Next up for the team is the Brumos Porsche 250 on Thursday, July 3rd at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida at 8:00 pm ET (8:00 pm ET, LIVE on SPEED).

Scott Pruett “Today was disappointing for the TELMEX team and me. We had a strong car. In practice we were able to run top-three times on old tires. When it rains it just isn’t fun – it’s not good on the drivers, the team and especially the fans. Memo did a great job driving in his stint as he kept the car up front and out of trouble. We walk away from today with a 37-point lead in the championship race which is only two points less than what we had going into this weekend. Lexus has given us a great engine again and we are definitely solely focused on the championship and feel good to leave in the position we are in.”

Memo Rojas “Today was an interesting day. Driving in the rain took a lot of focus and I was able to drive off-line which kept me on the track. It was all about being easy with the car and not risking anything because we can not afford to have a DNF to win the championship. Overall, I feel that I had a solid run in the rain and we walked away with a finish that did not hurt us. The TELMEX guys did an awesome job today and Lexus gave us another powerful engine. I’m looking forward to going back to Daytona and am hoping to get back on the podium there.”
