BRUSSELS - June 17, 2008: Euro NCAP is delighted to announce that the organisation’s former Secretary General (2003-2007), Professor Adrian Hobbs, has been awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday Honours List.
The honour was awarded for Professor Hobbs’ services to road safety over several decades. Some of Adrian’s early research was central to the implementation of seatbelt legislation in the United Kingdom. In the 1990’s Adrian was instrumental in the development of a new, more demanding frontal impact test which became the legislative standard in Europe. He was then pivotal in the development of a new car assessment programme, which resulted in the birth of Euro NCAP in 1996. He became the organisation’s Secretary General in 2003.
Euro NCAP’s Chairman Professor Claes Tingvall, said “I am delighted that Adrian Hobbs’ contribution to road safety should be recognised in this way. It is a great honour, which reflects his tireless work, over many years, to make Europe’s roads safer.”
Euro NCAP’s current Secretary General Dr Michiel van Ratingen said “I am tremendously proud that Adrian has received this distinguished honour from Her Majesty the Queen. He led Euro NCAP with great enthusiasm and expertise. As an organisation, we will continue, just as he did, to provide consumers with the most accurate assessment of new cars’ safety and to push manufacturers to make safer cars”.
Euro NCAP’s test results are released on a quarterly basis. Keep checking our website for details of forthcoming results.
