Kinser and TSR's Bass Pro Shops Team Prepared

INDIANAPOLIS – With the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws (Woo) Sprint Series season hitting its stride, Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Kraig Kinser and the No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevy/Maxim team are geared up for a four-date week. Kicking things off today, Kinser and Company will roll into the Anderson, Ind., J.D. Byrider store for a two-hour appearance. On Friday and Saturday, they’ll make a stop at the legendary Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway. They’ll wrap things up Sunday at Tri-City Raceway in Pontoon Beach, Ill.

Kinser and the No. 20 TSR team will be at the J.D. Byrider store in Anderson today from 6-8 p.m. EDT, with Kinser on hand for autographs and photo opportunities. The J.D. Byrider store will also host a live radio remote during the appearance. The store is located at 311 Scatterfield Road in Anderson.

On Friday and Saturday, the No. 20 team will return to the half-mile oval at Knoxville Raceway for their final tune-up before the Knoxville Nationals in August. In his last appearance at the track on May 3, 2008, Kinser finished 14th.

Sunday will see Kinser and the WoO Sprint Series return to the 3/8-mile oval at Tri-City Raceway. The event was postponed in April after inclement weather forced officials to reschedule it. Kinser’s last race at the facility saw him earn a third-place finish on May 7, 2005.

Both Advance Auto Parts WoO Sprint Series programs at Knoxville Raceway, located on State Route 14 on the Marion County Fairgrounds, will air on SPEED later in June. Check the WoO Web site at www.worldofoutlaws.com for air times.

On Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, pit gates will open at 3 p.m. CDT with the grandstand gates opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. For Sunday’s race at Tri-City Speedway, pit gates and the grandstand gates will open at noon CDT. Hot laps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

When a race track hosts a two-day event, such as this weekend’s doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway, does it help the team establish a rhythm?

“Having two nights in a row at the same track does help. It gives you a chance to try new things and utilize what you already know will work. At Knoxville this weekend, we’re hoping that we’ll have good momentum built up on Friday night that we can carry into Saturday’s race. The track changes from day to day as they rework it and prepare it each night, but I think having a chance to get rolling pretty well on Friday will definitely influence our approach on Saturday. It would be great to put Bass Pro Shops, Chevy and J.D. Byrider in the winner’s circle for the first time this season at a track like Knoxville.”

This weekend’s event at Knoxville Raceway is the final time the series will race at the track before the Knoxville Nationals in August. How important is this weekend in terms of preparing for the event?

“This weekend will definitely be important for us in terms of our Knoxville approach. But, with that said, each race leading into the Nationals is an important one. You learn every night you’re at the track and you try to use the best of the information you put together over the season at the Nationals. This weekend’s two-race event will be the last time we see Knoxville Raceway before the Nationals and it would be great to have a successful weekend to build on when we come back in August.”

You will return to Tri-City Raceway for the first time in three years on Sunday. Are you looking forward to racing on the 3/8-mile track?

“I had been looking forward to racing at Tri-City in April but the weather had other plans. I’ve not competed there since it was reconfigured to a 3/8-mile track. I finished third the last time I raced there in 2005 and I think we can put together a good race there this weekend. It will be pretty cool to see how the track has changed.”
