LTI invites public to celebrate diamond anniversary
One of Coventry’s best loved businesses is opening its doors to the public as it celebrates 60 years of taxi manufacturing.
LTI Vehicles, based on Holyhead Road, will open its doors on Saturday June 14, 2008. Visitors from the local community can call in at any time between 10am and 4pm to see first hand the work that goes in to building the iconic London taxis, which have been manufactured at the site since 1948.
Whole generations of families have a shared history with LTI and employees including fathers and sons will help to host the day for visitors who drop in to the factory.
Since 1948 more than 130,000 taxis have rolled off the production line including the FX, Fairway and TX series.
At the open day factory tours will be on offer to guests (last tour available at 3.15pm) and a fantastic selection of vintage taxis will be on display. Joining LTI will be the London Vintage Taxi Association. Refreshments will include tea, coffee, cakes and ice cream.
Today, LTI’s vehicles can be seen operating on the streets of London, other towns and cities in Britain, and around the world. LTI’s TX4 taxi is the latest version of the world famous vehicle, which has received overwhelming positive feedback from its growing customer list.
“As we enjoy this important milestone we are able to celebrate the past and look forward to the future,” said Peter Shillcock, Managing Director, at LTI Vehicles. “From the launch of the FX3 back in 1948 to the present day, LTI Vehicles has seen many changes in the development of its purpose-built taxis to meet the needs of the professional taxi driver.
“We look forward to continuing this success to ensure that the next 60 years are as successful as the company’s first.”
