LTI Vehicles celebrated 60 years of taxi manufacturing of the London taxi today at the Private Hire and Taxi exhibition, held at The Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

The company has achieved a great deal since 1948 when the first-ever London taxi left the Coventry plant. Other milestones from that year include the invention of the frisbee and the establishment of the World Health Organisation by the United Nations. Since then the automotive firm has seen more than 100,000 taxis roll off the production line including the FX, Fairway and TX series.

The company celebrated in front of exhibition visitors and press with the cutting of a specially made cake to celebrate the anniversary.

Today, these vehicles can be seen operating on the streets of London, other towns and cities in Britain, and around the world. LTI’s TX4 taxi is the latest version of the world famous vehicle, which has received overwhelming positive feedback from its growing customer list.

LTI Vehicles is universally recognised for manufacturing one of the world’s most iconic vehicles. The company is committed to continually improve on their taxis to offer drivers and passengers a taxi service that is the envy of others. As the UK’s sole provider of a dedicated network of dealerships, LTI Vehicles has built an unrivalled reputation in serving and supporting the taxi trade. It’s these essential ingredients that make LTI Vehicles the best in the business.

“As we celebrate this important milestone we are able to celebrate the past and look forward to the future,” said John Russell, CEO, Manganese Bronze Holdings PLC, LTI Vehicles’ parent company. “From the launch of the FX3 back in 1948 to the present day, LTI Vehicles has seen many changes in the development of its purpose-built taxis to meet the needs of the professional taxi driver.

“This is an important year in the history of LTI Vehicles. The agreement with Chinese auto manufacturer Geely is progressing nicely with the finishing touches being applied to the facility near Shanghai. The development of electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles also shows our commitment to improve our environmental credentials and gain a competitive advantage in an expanding global marketplace. All this makes for an exciting future both at home and abroad.

“We look forward to continuing this success to ensure that the next 60 years are as successful as the company’s first.”
