NASCAR All-Star Race Helps Penske Racing Trio Prepare for the Coca-Cola 600

CONCORD, N.C. – Providing a good learning experience for all three teams going into this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600, Penske Racing drivers Ryan Newman, Sam Hornish Jr., and Kurt Busch finished sixth, seventh, and 22nd respectively in Saturday night’s million-dollar 100-lap NASCAR All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Unlike “standard” points-paying races, the non-points NASCAR All-Star race has a unique format in which teams compete in four 25-lap segments. After the second segment, the teams stop for a 10-minute break where they can work on the race cars. Following the third segment, the teams must come down pit road and stop in their box before returning to the track for the fourth and final segment.

As the winner of the 2008 Daytona 500, Newman was guaranteed a spot and qualified eighth in his No. 12 Alltel Dodge for the event. He ran a solid race, ending up in sixth place, tops among the Penske Racing trio. “The Alltel Dodge was decent tonight, and I think we learned some things that will help us come back here with a better car for next week’s race,” Newman said following the caution-free race. “Track position was everything tonight. We opted for two tires on the final pit stop, and some of the guys in front of us didn’t take any. Sixth-place is a solid finish, and we’ll take what we learned and hopefully improve on that next Sunday.”

Penske Racing DHL Porsches Sweep Top Two Spots at Utah Grand Prix

TOOELE, Utah (May, 18, 2008) - The Penske Racing Porsche RS Spyders dominated at Miller Motorsports Park on Sunday, claiming the top two overall and class finishing positions in the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix presented by the Grand and Little America Hotels. The race offered another impressive performance by the American Le Mans Series LMP2 class as P2 cars claimed the top six finishing positions on the 3.048-mile, 15-turn circuit.

After earning the overall race pole on Saturday, the Penske combo of Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas, driving the No. 7 DHL Porsche, raced to both American Le Mans Series LMP2 class and overall victories at the picturesque road circuit near Salt Lake City. The victory was the third of the season in the P2 class for Bernhard and Dumas - the series leaders - following a historic overall win at Sebring in the series season opener and in April on the streets of St. Petersburg.

Sascha Maassen and Patrick Long made it a Penske Racing sweep in Utah as the drivers of the No. 6 DHL Porsche claimed the second overall position in the race, just over 22 seconds behind the Bernhard/Dumas team. The result was the best of the season for the Maassen/Long combo.

The impressive 1-2 finish also brought Penske Racing to the doorstep of a watershed moment in its storied history. The win by Bernhard and Dumas was the 299th victory in the history of Penske Racing.
