Brownsburg, Ind. (April 21, 2008) – The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Craftsman
Truck Series enjoyed a weekend off, but the NASCAR Nationwide Series headed south
of the border to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for the Corona Mexico 200
presented by Banamex in Mexico City.
Penske Racing rookie Sam Hornish Jr. competed in the event in the No. 12
Penske Truck Rental Dodge. Hornish started 11th in the race and remained
consistent throughout the day to finish 13th in the event.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series both travel to Talladega
Superspeedway in Alabama for their respective races, while the Craftsman Truck
Series heads to Kansas Speedway along with the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the IndyCar
Series for their events this weekend.
On Tuesday night at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., Ringers’ supporter
Billy Moyer captured his 10th win of the season at the “Showdown in
Sarvertown.?? While he didn’t commit to running the full World of Outlaws Late Model
Series schedule, he has led the most main event laps, 227 out of 400 to be
exact. Other Ringers’ notables in the field included Chub Frank finishing
third; Steve Francis, fourth; Rick Eckert, fifth; Josh Richards, seventh; Brian
Shirley, eighth; Jeep VanWormer, 10th and Shannon Babb, 16th. The series then
headed to The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the Circle K Colossal
100.
Ringers’ racer Steve Francis collected the $50,000 check for his A-main
event win on Saturday night. Richards rounded out the podium in third place.
Babb came home in sixth; VanWormer 11th; Eckert, 14th; Scott Bloomquist, 16th;
Moyer, 21st; Donnie Moran, 24th; Frank, 28th and Brian Birkhofer, 35th.
Frank’s 28th finishing position was result of a series of flips after his
car got into turns three and four a little too hard and caught the track.
Frank emerged from the car without a scratch, but it was the first time in his
30-year career he had been upside-down.
The WoO Late Model Series has this weekend off before heading to Lebanon
I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Mo., on May 3.
Part-time dirt late model racer and full-time ARCA racer Justin Allgaier
competed in the Prairie Meadows 250 at the Iowa Speedway on Saturday. Allgaier,
current point’s leader and Salem event winner, led a total of 83 laps of the
250-lap event before finishing in second place. Allgaier carries the point
lead into Kansas Speedway this weekend.
Supporting sprint car driver Jonathan Allard is used to appearing in victory
lane, but so far this season it has eluded him. That is all until Friday
when he led every single lap in the 25-lap event feature at Silver Dollar
Speedway in his hometown of Chico, Calif.
That’s the minute for this week! Indiana didn’t see too much racing this
weekend with rain hitting most of the central Indiana area Friday night and
Saturday morning. Stay tuned for next week’s minute which will include coverage
of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series from Atlanta, Sprint Cup and
Nationwide action from Talladega, along with Trucks, ARCA and IndyCars from Kansas
Speedway.
