FOCUSES JOIN SPRINTS FOR SALT LAKE OPENER SATURDAY;
MIKE MAIER TOPS TRACY FOCUS FEATURE
The USAC California Pavement and Utah Developmental Ford Focus Series combine for this Saturday's race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Western & Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Cars share billing at the 3/8-mile oval. The race is the first for the Utah series this season.
Mike Maier of Riverside, Calif. captured Saturday's 30-lap USAC California Pavement Ford Focus Midget feature at Altamont Motorsports Park, leading the final eight laps in his K & N Engineering Beast to beat Garrett Peterson, who had led the first 22 laps. Alex Bowman took third in the "Pacific Coast Spring Nationals" race ahead of Charles Maier and Ian Miille. Mike Maier was also the fastest qualifier.
Miille emerged as the series point leader, five ahead of Bowman heading into Saturday's race at Salt Lake City.
Charlie Butcher of Santa Barbara, Calif. won Saturday night's 20-lap Junior Ford Focus feature at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. He leads the series standings going into this Saturday night's race at Ventura.
