Stock Car Saturday Night Season Returns to SSP on April 19; Eckert Uses Test & Tune to Prepare for Big Race this Weekend
Newberrytown, PA (April 16, 2008) - The popular Stock Car Saturday Night Series returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday, April 19, with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and Four Cylinder Stock Cars. There will also be a special appearance of the PENNMAR Vintage Cars and Speedway Auto Sales Mini Vans.
On Saturday, April 19, the pit gates will open 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the Stock Car Saturday Night will be Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $22.00 with a reduced price of $20.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week's events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
The 2008 season opener last Saturday night found Dover's Bud Witmer edging the 2007 SSP Track Champion Carl Billet to pickup the win in the Late Model division and collecting $1,000. The first race of the Fab Four Series also had Middletown's Eric Walker winning a close battle over Wes Alleman. Randy Monroe from Hampton, Virginia won the ARDC main event. Ray Broderick of Lancaster won Xtreme Stock Car feature. Annville's Joey Hoffer won the first round of the 2008 Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. SSP Pit Notes
- Rick Eckert Prepares to Win $50,000 at SSP's Wednesday Night Test & Tune - World of Outlaw Late Model Star, Rick Eckert from York, PA used Wednesday Night's Test & Tune Session on April 16 to make final preparations for the $50,000-to-win Circle K Colossal 100 at the Dirt Track in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, April 19. Eckert used the six rotations on the track to use different set-ups to dial in to claim the grand prize in Charlotte this weekend. Many other drivers also turned out for the first of 10 Wed. Night Test & Tunes scheduled at SSP this season.
Besides 2006 & 2007 MACS Late Model Series champion, Jason Covert, there were many drivers from the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, ARDC Midgets, 600cc Micro Sprints, Four Cylinder Stock Cars, Mini Vans, Legends Cars and Sprint Cars classes that used the sessions to make their cars better for competition this weekend. One driver commented, "There is no substitute for actual on-tack time to make you a better driver and to dial you car in for competition."
The next test session will be on April 30. They are open to any type of racecars. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. The fuel pumps fro Miller's Racing Parts will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each session will be 6 - 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night.
- New Pit Access Gate - The back gate outside turn 2 off Kise Mill Road will no longer be used. The only entrance to enter the pit area will be in the front of the speedway off the York Road. This area has been reconfigured to accommodate the larger haulers at this entrance.
- Raceceivers Mandatory - One-way Raceceivers are now mandatory for the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks and Legends Car competing at SSP in 2008. For more information or to purchase one, contact Miller's Racing Parts at 717-766-0181. A limited number of rental units will be available on race night.

"The Outback Track at SSP"
Testing at the Outback Track scheduled for late April with racing beginning in mid to late May on Saturday mid-morning / afternoon. Gearing the "Outback Track" to the youth, the inside is 1/10 mile for Quarter Midgets with the outer perimeter measuring 1/7 mile for both karts and Bandolero Cars. The turns are 75 feet wide with the straight approximately 50 feet in width. More details will be released as they become available.
