SPORTSOUTH ANNOUNCES TONY STEWART INTERVIEW SPECIAL
In My Own Words: Tony Stewart Debuts on SportSouth on Sunday, April 20
at 9:30 p.m. ET
SportSouth today announced the debut of In My Own Words: Tony Stewart, a
30-minute interview special chronicling the life of one of NASCAR's
elite drivers. Since he first wheeled a go-kart at a Westport, Indiana
race track in 1978, Stewart has captured 11 championships including two
NASCAR Cup Series championships. In My Own Words: Tony Stewart debuts
on SportSouth on Sunday, April 20 at 9:30 p.m. ET and re-airs on April
27 at 4:30 p.m. ET, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. ET and April 30 at 9:30 p.m.
ET.
Stewart on the fans of NASCAR:
"Our race fans know more about my schedule than I know about my
schedule...Race fans are a special breed of fan you do not see in other
sports. They will ride the highest of the highs and the lowest of the
lows with you no matter what."
Stewart on volunteering:
"Almost every driver in this garage works with a charity or multiple
charities that they support. I think that is something - being a part of
NASCAR - that you really appreciate at the end of the day. It is not
just about us. It becomes about everybody because in racing, you always
have to have help getting to this level. Nobody just 'got' here on
their own, so it's almost rejuvenating at the end of the day to know you
were able to help somebody out."
Stewart on winning multiple NASCAR Cup Championships:
"You are in an elite group when you have won a championship, but to win
it twice and realize how few people have won multiple championships -
It's pretty flattering at the end of the day."
Stewart on a typical week for a NASCAR driver:
"There is no typical week in NASCAR. Every week is a different week and
if you get one day off you are lucky. Two days off and it's like a mini
vacation. Some of the newer fans think we just show up Thursday night or
Friday morning, practice, qualify, practice on Saturday and then race on
Sunday. It's not like that at all. In addition to the practice,
qualifying, practice and racing, there's testing, appearances,
commercial shoots, photo shoots. You name it. "
