SSP Opens 2008 Season with Witmer and Monroe Collecting Fab 4 Series Victories; Walker and Broderick Also Visit Victory Lane
Newberrytown, PA (April 12, 2008) - The 2008 season opener at the Susquehanna Speedway Night found Dover's Bud Witmer edging the 2007 SSP Track Champion Carl Billet to pickup the win in the Late Model division and collecting $1,000. The first race of the Fab Four Series also had Middletown's Eric Walker winning a close battle over Wes Alleman. Randy Monroe from Hampton, Virginia won the ARDC main event. Ray Broderick of Lancaster won Xtreme Stock Car feature. Annville's Joey Hoffer won the first round of the 2008 Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout.
The 25-lap Late Model feature began with Steve Billet taking the lead on the first lap after a caution filled beginning of the race. On the second circuit Billet was involved in a multi car accident in turns one and two. At the restart, John Moser, Jr. took command for the next four laps until he retired from the event on lap five. Bud Witmer took over the top spot and led the final 20 laps to pick up the win over Carl Billet. Randy Christine finished a strong run in third after staring thirteenth. Travis McClelland and John Baker also came from deep in the field to round out the top five. Gene Wrightstone, Steve Billet and John Moser, Jr. won the qualifying heat races.
Dustin Hollinger jumped out to the early lead from the pole position in the 25-lap Street Stock feature event. After leading the first two circuits, Hollinger relinquished his position after a lap 2 restart to Wes Alleman. Eric Walker then quickly joined the race for the lead with Alleman. Walker was able to gain the lead on lap 12 and never looked back as Alleman crossed the line second on Walker's bumper. Joey Hoofer finished third with 2007 SSP Track Champion, Paul Morgan finishing fourth. Joe Whiteley came from mid-pack to finish fifth. Heats were won by Hoffer and Morgan.
In the 20-lap ARDC Midget feature, Brett Arndt jumped out to the lead from the pole. On the third lap Randy Monroe took over the front spot. A one lap shoot out at the end after a lap 19 caution found Monroe holding onto the lead and picking up the win over Arndt. P.J. Garguilo came from a tenth place starting spot to finish third. Frank Polimeda and Andy Martin wounded out the top five. Polimeda, Gargiulo and Dave Shirk won their respective heat races.
In the Xtreme Stock Car feature event, David Kamp led the first 14 laps of 25. Ray Broderick took over the lead on the fifteenth lap and held on for the win over Alex Updegraff. Dave Kamp ended up third. Donnie Broderick and Matt Wampler completed the top five. Updegraff, Kamp and R. Broderick won the qualifying heat races. Tim Hahn won the consolation race.
The 5-lap Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout was won by Joey Hoffer. Jimmy Slaseman, Jenn Scott, Dave Thompson, Jr. and Chad Smith rounded out the top five.
