AKRON, Ohio, April 10 -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced today that it has bolstered its regional truck- tire product portfolio with two new tires for two very different applications.

The company is introducing the Unisteel G149 RSA RH tire for on-highway regional service and the Unisteel G150 HSA for school bus and city or neighborhood driving.

Steve McClellan, vice president of Goodyear commercial tire systems, said, "Two is better than one, particularly when customers formerly had to use one tire to do it all. In this case, we've focused each tire on specific applications to better serve our customers with enhanced performance and treadwear."

For example, the tread pattern for the G149 RSA RH is "tuned" for longer wear on urban streets and highway driving, while the G150 HSA uses special compounds for high-scrub applications used on school buses and in local pickup and delivery service, McClellan said.

The G150 HSA also features sidewall protector ribs that help resist sidewall damage from the sharp turns and curbs encountered in neighborhood driving, he added.

Bruce Woodruff, Goodyear marketing manager for regional and light-truck commercial tires, said both all-position tires, available in 11R22.5 sizes in G and H load ratings, feature circumferential grooves and lateral blades that help displace water for confident driving on rain-soaked roads.

In addition, Woodruff said, the tread footprint was modified for enhanced wear evenness and to help lower overall cost-per-mile.

"The G149 RSA RH and G150 HSA tires are both important additions to our regional lineup," Woodruff said. "The tread design and compounding are application-specific to help enhance performance and add more miles to removal."

The Unisteel casing features four full belts to help stiffen and support the tread, further resisting irregular wear. An enhanced belt compound helps tear resistance. "This translates into longer casing life and more retreads for the life of the tire," Woodruff said.

Goodyear commercial tire systems offer complete products and services to the trucking and bus industries, including a full range of original equipment and replacement tires. In addition, the company's cradle-to-grave tire and service network includes retreading, tire management tools and business solutions for tomorrow's truck and bus fleets.
