FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY SEASON OPENS ON APRIL 11, 2008
Presented by WHCC 105.1 Hoosier Country
& AMVETS Post 2000
BLOOMINGTON, IN (April 6, 2008) - Have you had enough winter yet? Us too! It's time for nice weather and dirt track racing. And, the competitors are even more ready to go racing than we are.
WHCC 105.1 Hoosier Country and AMVETS Post 2000 are happy to invite you to our opening night program which will feature the cars and drivers that will be featured most Friday nights this season. We will vary the program in a few races; but the Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars, the O'Neal Wood Products Modifieds, and the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks will the featured classes most of the season. As a Bloomington Speedway championship can give a big boost to a driver's career, they will all be trying to get their season off to a good start Friday night.
Our three defending champions, Jeff Bland, Jr., Shelby Miles, and Jeremy Hines can all be expected to unload to get their 2008 season off to a good start. While Bland will probably miss a couple of races while he's off running USAC races; it is still important to him to win in front of his hometown fans. And, since Bland is a racer to the bone, he wants all of the racing laps that he can get.
Shelby Miles finished third in the national UMP points last season; and this season he will be racing for the national UMP championship in addition to his third O'Neal Wood Products Modified championship.
Jeremy Hines will be running for his third Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock championship in a row. There may well be another target for Jeremy to shoot at since UMP will be awarding points to Indiana Super Stock competitors for the first time this season. We all know that he is one of the top super stock drivers in the area; and he may well elect to take on all of the super stock drivers in the nation. Since every Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock program will count for UMP points, he can still compete regularly at Bloomington Speedway while chasing the UMP points.
A sprint car driver to watch this season is Kenny Niflis. He started his sprint car career the same day as Jeff Bland, Jr. in the fall of 2006. Last season he finished seventh behind Bland, Danny Holtsclaw, Jon Sciscoe, Bobby Stines, Kent Christian, and Chris Babcock. These guys will all still be hard to beat; but you can bet on Kenny and his car owner and father, Trent Niflis, will do everything possible to move their team up into championship contention this season.
It appears that we may have a surprise addition to our field of Safety-Kleen sprint cars this season. Jesse Cramer rolled onto the track at Twin Cities Raceway Park in an orange sprint car with the familiar 12T on it.
Don't miss the first lap on the race to the 2008 series championships. Plan to be with us on April 11 to see the best racing you'll see anywhere.
Pit gates will open at 4:30 PM, the grandstand gates will open at 5:30 PM, hot laps will start at 6:30 PM, and racing will begin at 7:30 PM. General admission is $12 for this event, (Children 12 and under are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by a paying adult); and pit admission is $25. Coolers are permitted; but glass containers aren't. Overnight camping is also permitted.
