Donation By Chrysler Jeep Superstores Will Help Children And Teens Attend ADA's Camp Midicha
BINGHAM FARMS, Mich., April 2, 2008 -- Diabetes research, advocacy and education received a big boost thanks to the generous donation of a two-year lease for a 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible by the Chrysler Jeep Superstores, a sponsor of the American Diabetes Association 16th Annual Commitment for a Cure Gala.
The gala, held this year at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10 at the Ritz-Carlton Dearborn, celebrates the contributions of volunteers and community leaders in the fight against diabetes. Proceeds fund research, diabetes education and advocacy.
The two-year lease is part of the gala's live auction that will help support the American Diabetes Association's Camp Midicha, the only residential camp in Michigan dedicated to, and designed for, children and teens with diabetes. Children aged 5 to 17 years with Types 1 and 2 diabetes can select several exciting camp experiences that include activities ranging from fishing, archery, swimming, and kayaking to underground cave excursions.
"We're very excited about the Chrysler Jeep Superstores donation of a two-year lease," said Mary C. Riegle, Director of Special Events for the American Diabetes Association. "Now is a critical time for diabetes education and advocacy. We really think that the chance to be behind the wheel of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible will be a fun way to grab people's interest in the ADA and the work that we do in Michigan," she said.
More than 815,000 children and adults in Michigan and 20.8 million nationwide have diabetes.
"We're thrilled to be a part of such an important event," said Jim Schebil, president of the Chrysler Jeep Superstores Advertising Association, a group of 39 independently owned Chrysler Jeep Superstores in Southeast Michigan from Monroe to Fowlerville and from Clinton Township to Port Huron. "Diabetes is affecting more and more of our neighbors, colleagues and families. That this donation helps children in our backyard is even more important to us, and is directly in line with our strong commitment to hometown community support."
The Chrysler Jeep Superstores will have the 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible on display at the Ritz-Carlton Dearborn during the Gala. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel is located at 300 Town Center Dr. in Dearborn, Michigan.
