Seat to promote research in light sciences
MARTORELL, SPAIN - Seat’s corporate headquarters at Martorell today provided the backdrop for the signing of an agreement aimed at promoting research and teaching of excellence in the fields of optical and photonic technologies; SEAT was represented by its Vice-President for Human Resources Ramón Paredes, and the Institute of Photonic Sciences (IFCO) by Lluís Torner.
The agreement is designed to further research and teaching as well as stimulate industry in the fields of light science and all disciplines where photonics have an impact, such as optoelectronics and optical nanotechnologies, information technologies, health and life sciences, quantum information technologies and laser systems.
During the signing event, Ramón Paredes underscored the importance of an agreement “that is yet another example of the company’s commitment to specialised qualifying and training for its workforce as a real driving force to adapt to the on-going rapid changes being experienced in the automobile sector. Good training is the basis for professional development, not only of people, but also of corporations”.
The agreement provides for SEAT becoming a “member” of the IFCO’s Business Collaboration Programme. The Photonic Science Institute is a foundation set up by the Catalan Government (Generalitat) together with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia so as to provide a global-reach response to the needs of research and teaching at doctorate level.
The Institute also covers the industrial implementation and promotion of spin-off companies set up to develop ideas arising from research carried out by researchers and students.
