American Axle & Manufacturing Provides Update on UAW Work Stoppage - April 1, 2008
The work stoppage implemented by AAM's UAW-represented workforce at the company's original five facilities in Michigan and New York remains in effect. Approximately 3,650 associates are represented by the UAW at these facilities.
In an attempt to intensify negotiations and reduce the impact of the UAW work stoppage on AAM's customers, the automotive industry and the company's associates and their families, AAM provided additional requested information to the UAW on March 27, 2008. This information was provided in conjunction with the signing of a confidentiality agreement between AAM and the UAW.
"It is my sincere hope that AAM and the UAW will be able to jointly develop an agreement that will allow AAM to compete on a level playing field in the United States automotive supply industry," said AAM Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO Richard E. Dauch. "AAM is not, and never has been, an OEM. Establishing a market cost competitive labor agreement with the UAW that recognizes AAM as a Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supplier to the automotive industry is critical to providing a viable, profitable and sustainable future for the company and its UAW-represented associates at the original U.S. locations."
