Phillip McGilton's Atlanta Pre-race

PHOTO

This week’s race truck for Atlanta Motor Speedway is Chassis No. 22-42. This is the same truck the No. 22 team ran in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ most recent outing at California Speedway. Phillip McGilton drove that truck to his first top-10 finish in NASCAR competition. Newbie… This will be McGilton’s first time racing on the 1.5-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway. He tested on the track earlier this year and ran rather well during the test session. Great Start… Even though McGilton has only two career NASCAR starts, he seems like a veteran on the track and has gained a ton of respect. The Raybestos Rookie captured his first top-10 finish last time out at California Speedway and is currently ranked sixth in the Championship points standings. Charity Event… McGilton and Bill Davis Racing teammate Johnny Benson will participate in the Inaugural Clay Shoot and Barbecue for the Atlanta Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities Thursday afternoon at the track. The event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Listen and watch… The American Commercial Lines 200 is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. ET Friday, March 7. It will broadcast live on Speed Channel (TV), MRN (radio) and Sirius Satellite Radio (Ch. 128).

Phillip McGilton on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway:

“I am very excited about how things are going. We are just taking it one race at a time and it seems to be paying off quite well for us. I have never raced on the Atlanta track, but I have tested here earlier this year. I think my team and I will be better acquainted with this track versus California. I went into California with no experience whatsoever on the racetrack and came out with my first top-10 finish, so I hope to do even better this weekend.”

Crew Chief Doug Wolcott’s Racing Quotes:

Doug Wolcott on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway:

“I hope to keep what we have going at Atlanta. We want to build on the success of the first two races that we have run so far this year. We tested well here in January, so we should have quite a good showing.

“I feel that we are ahead of schedule with Phillip at this point in the year. I mean, our goals this year were to finish on the lead lap and finish in the top-20 at each race. Heck, we already have two top-15 finishes, including Phillip’s first top-10 at California. I think we are running strong, and I hope to start off Atlanta right where we wrapped things up in California.”
