Johnson Controls was measured on several criteria which include innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment and quality of products/services.

"It is truly an honor to receive this prestigious award for the third consecutive year," said Stephen A. Roell, Chairman and CEO, Johnson Controls. "Earning the top ranking on Fortune's list indicates we're strongly focused on our customers. As we work to create smart environments that improve comfort, safety and sustainability in the places where people live, work and travel, our customers and consumers will continue to benefit."

Fortune's ranking is the most current of several recent awards, including Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) and PricewaterhouseCooper's (PWC) recognition as a Gold Class sector leader for sustainability and being identified as one of the 10 Best Corporate Citizens by Industry (auto and vehicle sector) by Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) Magazine.

Fortune Magazine's America's Most Admired Companies list is based on surveys conducted by the Hay Group, which asks over 3,700 industry experts to pick 10 companies that excel in the criteria stated above. The list is the definitive benchmark of corporate reputations among industry leaders.

Johnson Controls placed first in the category of Motor Vehicle Parts.
