Brounkowski, Callaway win in Louisiana

 

            BELLE ROSE, La. - In the final results from the NHRA Lucas
Oil Drag Racing Series Cajun Challenge at No Problem Raceway, David
Brounkowski and Lee Callaway pick up big wins to open the season.

Brounkowski of Cypress, Texas, saved his best pass of the day for the
final round where he faced off against former division champion Spencer
Massey of Fort Worth, Texas, in Top Alcohol Dragster.  Brounkowski ran
5.473 seconds at 252.24 mph to Massey's 6.361-second pass.  Brounkowski
took out Chris Holley and Travis Nicholson on his way to the final.

Lee Callaway, who recently made the switch from a dragster to the Top
Alcohol Funny Car class, 

qualified No. 2 before running a 5.875 second pass at 245.05 mph in an
unopposed final round when the No. 1 qualifier Steve Harker broke on the
burn out and did not make a run.  Callaway also ran his best pass of the
day in his final round.

            Three Louisiana racers picked up wins for the home state
with defending division champion Craig Bourgeious of Metarie, La.,
outrunning Ernest Watson with a 7.114 seconds 182.77 mph pass. Jarrod
Granier of Labadieville, La., and Matt Levatino, LaPlace, La., won in
the Stock and Super Street classes respectively.  Granier beat Mike
Braswell and Levatino held off Carl Tauzin in their final rounds.

Current division Stock Champion Jerry Emmons grabbed the win in the
Super Stock class beating former Super Gas National Champion Jonathan
Womack with a lap of 9.602 seconds.  

            Additional drivers visiting the winner's circle this weekend
at No Problem Raceway were Lindsey Wood of McAlpin, Fla., in Super Comp;
Jerry DeBusk of LaPorte, Texas, in Super Gas; Curtis J. Nichols III of
Alvin, Texas, in the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley
Davidson; Bob Fitzhenry of Tomball, Texas, in his '02 Corvette in the
Reher-Morrison Top Sportsman; and Odessa, Texas, resident Brian Canady
in the TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster class running 7.147 seconds at 175.68.

            South Central Division racers head to Memphis Motorsports
Park for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, next weekend,
March 7-9.
