Massey, Harker On Top at No Problem
BELLE ROSE, La. - In the first rounds of qualifying at No
Problem Raceway and the NHRA South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series season opener, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Spencer Massey
of Fort Worth, Texas, and Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Steve Harker of
Gainesville, Ga., took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.
Massey outran the field with a pass of 5.367 seconds at 245.90 mph and
is followed by Brandon Lewis out of Broken Arrow, Okla., with a lap of
5.468 at 264.39.
Harker made a 5.901-second, 234.70 mph run to take the pole. Steve Burck
follows in the No. 2 spot with a 5.907-second run at 244.07 mph.
In Comp Eliminator it was Charles Watson of Humble, Texas, leading the
field in his '08 Cobalt with his uncle Earnest Watson landing in second.
Top qualifiers in other classes include local racer Slate Cummings of
Hammond, La., in the Super Stock class with an 8.845 second pass in his
'07 Cavalier. Cummings is also the current division champion in Super
Comp. Kent LaPorte of New Iberia, La., leads the Stock class and Rich
Gentili leads the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson
field.
Raceland, La., resident Earl Folse is tops in the Reher-Morrison Top
Sportsman class running 6.570 seconds at 211.49 mph and Joe Collier of
Clyde, Texas, is No. 1 in the TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster class at 6.165
seconds, 221.13 mph.
Racing continues Saturday and Sunday. Gates open at 8 a.m. with
qualifying and time trials beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Top
Sportsman and Top Dragster qualify at 10 a.m. & noon with a 4-car
shootout set for 2 & 4 p.m. in each class. Racers in Comp, Top Alcohol
Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify at 1 & 5 p.m.
Tickets are $20 each day with children 10 and under
receiving free admission with a paid adult.
