Wood Brothers Racing flying the U.S. Air Force paint scheme this weekend
The no. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford F-150 will be proudly displaying the U.S. Air Force as a primary sponsor this weekend in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ San Bernardino County 200 at California Speedway. The U.S. Air Force is utilizing NASCAR at full speed in its recruitment efforts across the country. This weekend, Colonel Timothy J. Hanson will be a Wood Brothers Racing special guest as he will be watching the race from a front row point of view in the team’s pit stall.
Col. Hanson is the Chief of Strategic Communications, Headquarters Air Force Recruiting Service, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. He is responsible for public affairs and all advertising and marketing efforts to attract young people for all Air Force enlistment and commissioning programs, and to build national awareness of Air Force opportunities. Col Hanson said, "The Air Force is well represented in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Jon Wood behind the wheel the No. 21 Air Force truck. Wood Brothers Racing has done a lot of work to get the truck in top form and we're looking for a strong performance at Fontana this week.”
Jon Wood describes what it means to drive for an entity such as the U.S. Air Force, “It’s always fun to be flying U. S. Air Force colors because it’s a totally different type of sponsor. I don’t necessarily look at it like I’m representing a sponsor but I’m representing a group of people that are highly respectable and I cannot help but have a sense of pride when I’m running that paint scheme.”
The team’s primary focus will be on how the truck will race rather than an emphasis on qualifying. They are using a race truck that Mark Martin in the 2007 season and sat on the pole in Homestead with Jon. Crew Chief John Monsam states, “I’m really proud of how hard my guys worked in Daytona, we’ve got a really great group. I’m looking forward to racing at this track, I love California Speedway.” Monsam adds, “I have high expectations to finish well. “
