LEFFLER BEING HONORED IN HOMETOWN
Leffler will be honored in his hometown next Wednesday, February 20th at 6pm, at Smooth’s Sports Grille in Long Beach. Smooth’s, which this year celebrates its 26th year of business, will hang Leffler’s firesuit and helmet for permanent display as a way to pay tribute for his hard work and success, and of course, his roots in Long Beach.
“I always look forward to coming home to California but this trip is going to be even more special for me. Smooth’s Sports Grill is a staple in Long Beach and has been for the last 26 years. John Morris has made it a point to celebrate and pay tribute to other athletes from this area and I am honored to now be a part of that history. To be recognized for years of hard work in such a way with my wife, Alison, and son, Charlie Dean as well as other family and friends there means a lot to me.”

“I always look forward to the chance to get back to the west coast but this weekend I’m just excited about getting back to racing. Daytona is its own beast, where it really doesn’t matter if you have a great race car or a mediocre race car. It’s more about the luck you are dealt. The real season starts at California because your performance there will be a pretty good indicator of where you stand in comparison with everyone else and what areas you need to work on for the first part of the season. We struggled last year at the mile and a half tracks but have worked hard in the off-season to conquer those problems. After a pretty good test at Las Vegas I feel very confident that we will have a strong car that will be able to qualify up front and be able to contend for the win this weekend.”
Equipment Information
The No. 38 Great Clips team will compete with chassis #25 in this weekend’s Stater Bros. 300. This is the same chassis Leffler raced in last fall’s event at California where he started 23rd and finished 14th.
