Marcos Ambrose has posted the 42nd fastest time during qualifying for tomorrow’s Camping World 300 at Daytona International Speedway in Florida today.

Ambrose set a time of 50.81 seconds around the 2.5-mile superspeedway in the #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion in qualifying.

Ambrose and his JTG Racing team sacrificed qualifying speed to run with a race set-up today, with cars impounded between today’s qualifying and tomorrow’s 120-lap race, the first of the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

The Australian is confident that he has a good race set-up for the event and is looking forward to tomorrow’s race at the fast Daytona venue, one of his favourites race tracks.

Tony Stewart will start from pole in tomorrow’s Camping World 300 ahead of Clint Bowyer and Jason Leffler.

“Qualifying at the superspeedways is never the most important thing,” said Ambrose.

“I think we could have run a couple of tenths of a second faster and with the times being so close that would have us further up the grid, but really it all means nothing and it’s tomorrow that counts.

“We have got a great handling race car and we have sacrificed some qualifying speed to have a good car in the race.

“The first half of the race will be all about sitting back and letting things settle down, then once things have settled we can start to move forward.”
