TEAM REPORTS (DAYTONA, FLA.) - FORD RACING NOTES AND QUOTES
Jon Wood, driver of the No. 21 The Barnhill Group Ford F-150 set the fastest time in Wednesday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice. Wood looks forward to racing in Friday's Chevy Silverado 250 at Daytona International Speedway.
ON HAVING THE FASTEST PRACTICE TIME. "It's good from a confidence stand point and it makes it easier to sleep at night knowing that your truck is toward the top of the board instead of the bottom. But at a track like this, it really represent a lot. The thing that I'm most excited about is that my truck does drive well in comparison to a lot of trucks that are out there on the race track. It looks like I have more security and race-ability. That's what is important."
YOU MADE A GEAR CHANGE, DID THAT HELP WITH THE SPEED? "I didn't feel a difference in the truck even though it made the truck faster. Right now, I almost wish there was no lap times and there was no scoreboard and all you did was focus on the way it drives. A lot of times you can end up tricking yourself in thinking that one combination or one configuration is better only because it went faster. And that isn't the case here. It's all about how it drives and staying full throttle the entire time."
HOW DOES THE TRUCK FEEL? "I'm very comfortable in the truck and I don't think we'll make a lot of changes. I need to run in a bigger back than what I've been seeing. Everybody is pretty spread out and there's not a consistent big pack to run with right now, so tomorrow is probably going to be more important. They way we've built my truck; we've built it to drive well and not have straightway speed. We've taken the straight line speed out of it and focused on how it drives turning the wheel."
