PENSACOLA, Fla. (Feb. 1, 2008) – Goodson Racing has a
reputation for developing young and talented drivers
looking to make a career driving race cars and now
team owner Tracy Goodson is taking his team to the
next level – the Hooter’s Pro Cup Series. He has hired
16-year old Hunter Robbins of Montgomery, Ala. to
pilot the team’s entry in the Southern Division for
the Pro Cup Series.
Last season, Goodson Racing tested the waters in
Hooter’s Pro Cup competition running two races at the
end of the season and now Goodson feels it is the
perfect time to take his race team on the road with
the national touring series.
“This is a great step for our race team, I am very
excited about the season and cannot wait until the
first race,” commented Goodson. “We have built a brand
new, state of the art race shop and I have an
incredible combination of a young, talented driver and
experienced, winning crew chief.”
The Crew Chief Goodson mentioned is none other than
four-time Hooter’s Pro Cup Champion driver, Benny
Gordon. Gordon will continue driving for his own team
in the Northern Division but will grab a wrench during
his off weekends and make all of the calls for Goodson
Racing during their campaign for the Southern Division
Championship.
Hunter Robbins drove for Goodson for the first time
last week during a Super Late Model race in Lakeland,
Fla. Although the finish only shows 11th, the new
combination was a threat for the race win before
getting caught up in a 17-car crash.
“We just got in that big wreck and one of the guys hit
us and it hurt something in the front end of the car
and knocked the toe out a lot,” said Robbins. “We
tried to fix it as best we could, but the car just
wasn’t the same after that. It was just real tight in
the middle, so we just had to ride it out until the
finish.”
“I am just grateful for this opportunity with Goodson
Racing. I know Tracy has launched many young drivers
into bigger race series and I want to help Tracy to
make it into the big time of Motorsports. His race
cars and entire operation are the nicest anywhere
around.”
Watch for the Goodson, Robbins and Gordon combination
at their next race on March 15th at USA International
Speedway in Lakeland, Fla. For more information about
