The 2008 running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona has been setting records. At the 18-hour mark, there had already been 18 cautions, a new Rolex 24 record. The Krohn Racing team was holding its own, as numerous teams closed their garages and put their cars away after problems forced them to retire.

The No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley of Tracy W. Krohn, Eric van de Poele and Oliver Gavin are in the 11th overall position, 19 laps down from the leaders. The car had to make a few pit stops during the night when visibility became extremely poor due to rain and wiper problems. However, they managed to close in on the Top 10, going from a steady 13th position most of the night to 11th by 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The main excitement for the team was at approximately 6:40 a.m. when Eric van de Poele kissed the wall, which caused the windscreen to shatter. He was able to continue driving until the next scheduled stop when Tracy Krohn took over the wheel and brought it through the 18-hour mark.

The No. 76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley of Nic Jönsson, Ricardo Zonta and Darren Turner moved into the eighth overall position, seven laps down from the leader at 18 hours. The main issue on the No. 76 entry during the night was a cooling problem, which forced the drivers to have to short-shift throughout their gearing. Although visibility was poor with the inclement weather, they soldiered on and climbed into the Top 10 with relative ease.

ERIC VAN DE POELE, Driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley: “The car is not bad on rain tires, and it’s still very slippery in places. You have to be SOOO careful! I had fun in the car and I am learning Grand-Am. Near the start of my stint I touched a wall and the windscreen cracked, but it wasn’t a problem so we didn’t change it until the scheduled pit stop.??
