TEAM REPORTS (DAYTONA, FLA.) - KROHN RACING Notes and Quotes at the 6-Hour:

The Krohn Racing team is off to a positive start at this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona at Daytona International Raceway. The No. 75 Pontiac Riley of team owner and starting driver Tracy W. Krohn, along with Oliver Gavin and Eric van de Pole, started from the 25th position of 66 cars on the grid. At the 6-Hour mark the car was in ninth position overall after 180 laps.

The No. 76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley of Nic Jönsson (starting driver), along with Ricardo Zonta and Darren Turner, began the race from the 15th position. At the 6-hour mark they were in third place, after 179 laps. Daytona rookie Ricardo Zonta had led the race for 30 minutes, relinquishing it on a pit stop.

The first six hours of the twice-around-the-clock enduro classic has gone smoothly so far for the Krohn team, although the race has featured four cautions already. Regular pit stops and driver rotations were the name of the game for both Krohn entries for the first quarter of the race.

OLIVER GAVIN, Driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley: “It was a lot of fun. It was good racing against some good guys. I managed to catch a pack including Pat Long, Ricardo (Zonta) and Alex Gurney. We had a good dice for awhile, a good battle. It was quite evenly matched, I think, between all of us. Ricardo managed to get away a little bit towards the end there. It’s great fun racing. It’s going to be hard. It’s going to be very tough. There’s nothing easy about this race. It’s a little frustrating sometimes trying to make way. You think, ‘Oh, I’ve got quite a bit of a run here,’ but then, all of a sudden, you stumble across a very slow Mazda or a very slow Porsche and you lose your momentum. That’s endurance racing. That’s how it goes.”

RICARDO ZONTA, Driver, No. 76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley: “I had a lot of fun. It’s nice to drive here in Daytona. To say the truth, I learned the circuit really during the race because I did not have much time in the car. I crashed in practice so we lost a few days. The race was really nice. I’m enjoying it a lot. This is my first long endurance race. The other GT drivers were working very well and leaving good lines for me to go. There was no risk. The car is fantastic. It’s really good to drive. I didn’t push too hard. I was just safe and good.”

Regarding leading the race at Daytona:“When you are at the top, it is nice. I think it is still a long race to go. Anything can happen. For our part of the team, we are very happy. No problems. The car was very good. The tires are working very well as well”.

TRACY W. KROHN, Team owner/driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley: “It started out fine and then it got pretty busy. I was just holding on, making sure we kept it on the track. There were some guys really fast today and some guys slower, plus a lot of guys spinning out. I just kept it rather conservative, kept the car on the track. I wanted to keep going and make it last.”

NIC JONSSON, No. 76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley driver: “We started out the race really good. We stayed out of trouble basically and got in the rhythm. All the drivers have now done a rotation of a double stint. We had a little bit of an issue when it started raining. Rain tires overheated so we had to pit for slicks. And then we had a spike in the engine temperature so we had to come in once again so we lost a lap because of that. Then we had to come in again because we flat-spotted the tires. They are in a position to try and get the lap back and just get back in the rhythmHopefully be back on the lead lap when the morning comes around and go racing until the end.”
