GRAND AM (DAYTONA, FLA.) - Pontiac Continues as Official Car of Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series
Pontiac and the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 have signed a two-year agreement for Pontiac to continue supplying Pontiac Pace Cars to support the series for the next two-years. In addition GMC will supply support trucks to the series.
The Grand-Am Rolex Series will kick-off the 2008 schedule with the 46th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona January 26-27.
In 2007 Pontiac won the manufacturer, team and driver championships on the strength of 10 wins in the Daytona Prototype category, with GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing taking the team and drivers’ championship. In GT, the Pontiac GXP.R won three races and Banner Racing finished second in the championship standings.
“We are reaffirming our commitment to the Grand-Am Rolex Series,” David Pettit, Pontiac, GMC, Buick promotions manager said. “The series offers a comprehensive racing package with television, event promotional opportunities and the excitement of excellent competition on the track. We have the largest manufacturer presence in the series with the most competitors in the DP category. In GT our Pontiac GXP.R proved a winner in its first year and with an additional three cars on the track this year, we hope to contend for the GT titles as well.”
The series runs a schedule consisting of 14 races in major markets at the country’s most exciting tracks.
“Pontiac has been a strong supporter of the Grand-Am Rolex Series,” Roger Edmondson, Grand-Am president said. “Their presence at the track with support vehicles is a very visible, but small part of their commitment. Their marketing strength helps to support both our weekend racing operations and our long term goals as a racing entity.”
The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 will open its season Saturday with the 46th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The race can be viewed on the SPEED.
