Three-time former NASCAR Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup) Champion, 1989 Daytona 500 winner, 2005 International Motorsports Hall of Fame Inductee and current broadcast celebrity Darrell Waltrip has announced he will participate in Race Fever 2008, Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind’s (AIDB) annual fundraising event, held 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., April 25, at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Speed Channel Dome, Talladega Superspeedway. This will be his third consecutive appearance at the event and second year of hosting duties!

“I’m again looking forward to Race Fever. It’s a great event for an even greater cause,” states Waltrip. “AIDB, the Talladega Superspeedway and the entire racing community support this event and it could not be more evident than by the commitment of the many NASCAR drivers who take time out of their schedules to make an appearance. I, along with many other drivers, wouldn’t miss it!”

Waltrip will join co-host, legendary basketball coach Sonny Smith for the 23rd annual Race Fever dinner and auction, presented in conjunction with Talladega Superspeedway. Proceeds from the event benefit many classroom and dormitory needs of deaf and blind children and adults at AIDB.

NASCAR drivers also commit to Race Fever each year. Drivers like Bobby Labonte, Kyle Petty, Martin Truex, Jr. and others make Race Fever an annual part of the spring race weekend in Talladega. Last year, 23 drivers attended the event which raised over $204,000!

“The driver commitment and dedication to this event is tremendous,” states Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey. “Drivers and celebrities like Darrell Waltrip donate their time and racing memorabilia for the live and silent auctions. Some of the drivers come directly from qualifying to the event. Race Fever allows fans and sponsors the opportunity to see their favorite drivers ‘up close and personal’ while positively impacting children and their families experiencing deafness and blindness. Whether a driver, fan, sponsor or volunteer, this is an amazing event to be involved in – on any level.”

Race Fever is the largest source of unrestricted funds for the AIDB Foundation. Make your plans now to attend. To learn more about Race Fever Night to benefit AIDB Foundation, log onto www.racefever.org, or call (256) 761-3317.
