RACING BUSINESS (TALLADGEA, ALA.) - Greater Talladega Area Chamber of Commerce Names Talladega Superspeedway Large Business of the Year

The Greater Talladega Area Chamber of Commerce named Talladega Superspeedway Large Business of the Year during yesterday’s annual celebration luncheon. Track Public Relations Director Kristi King was also named Outstanding Chamber Member at the event.

“This is a great honor bestowed upon us by the Greater Talladega Area Chamber of Commerce,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey. “Talladega Superspeedway takes a lot of pride in the many contributions we make to the local community and it’s a real pleasure to be recognized for them. In addition to the track helping drive the local economy and supporting various civic organizations, Talladega Superspeedway also encourages its staff members to serve their community through volunteering. Kristi’s award as Outstanding Chamber Member reflects her many contributions to the city of Talladega, the Chamber of Commerce and the community as a whole. We are proud to have her as a part of our team.”

2007 season was a record for Talladega Superspeedway in terms of donations and charitable contributions. Race weekend work, provided during the track’s two major event weekends by volunteers from various service groups throughout the region, produced more than $500,000 to be shared by the respective organizations. Talladega Superspeedway also hosted Race Fever Night to benefit the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Foundation. The largest source of unrestricted funds for the AIDB Foundation, the event raised over $200,000. To close out the year, the track again partnered with WTDR Thunder 92.7 FM to raise over $15,000 to provide Christmas gifts to less fortunate children throughout the track’s surrounding region.

For King, the honor of Outstanding Chamber Member was the result of tireless dedication to the Chamber. In addition to her role as past president, she also served on six different committees; Christmas in Talladega, Fundraiser, Nominating, Leadership, Annual Banquet and Bylaws. Not one to shy away from responsibility, King also served as past president of the Talladega United Way and vice president of Kiwanis in 2007.

Talladega Superspeedway will host its first races of the 2008 NASCAR season during the Aaron’s Dream Weekend, featuring the Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series and Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, set for April 25-27. Friday, April 25 will feature NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice and The Birmingham News Qualifying for the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Saturday, April 26 will feature The Birmingham News Qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Then on Sunday, April 27, the greatest drivers in the world will compete in the Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Kids age 11 and younger are admitted free of charge to the general admission grandstands when accompanied by a ticketed adult on Friday and Saturday.
