MINDY’S FIRST MINUTE OF 2008
Brownsburg, Ind. - (January 8, 2008) Hello all! It has been a while since
the last installment of my Minute, so I figured I better catch everyone up
on the latter part of 2007 before we get racing again in less than a month!
In early December, Josh Baltimore (Ringers automotive sales manager) and I
met down in Orlando, Fla., for the annual Performance Racing Industry (PRI)
Show. What was cool about the show this year is it was a week earlier than
normally and it coincided with the NASCAR Busch Series banquet held at the
Portofino Hotel and Resort at Universal Studios.
It’s always nice to run into friends you only get to see a couple times a
year. I had the pleasure to see former ASA Racing Competition Director (now
Nationwide Series director) Joe Balash, along with his wife Tammy and many of
the officials from the series I used to work with, along with the Lefflers,
David Stremme, Janna and Lisa from Richard Childress Racing and many others.
After the PRI Show, I was sick for almost two weeks! Of course it couldn’t
have come at a worse time with Christmas parties and festivities starting.
The Friday after PRI was the David Powers Motorsports Christmas party at their
new shop here in Brownsburg. It is an absolutely beautiful facility! It
was good to see the Powers’ up from Texas; John Torok from Matco Tools along
with his wife, Tammy; the folks from Caterpillar made the trip over from
Illinois and even Hot Rod Fuller made the trip in from Las Vegas. The delicious
food was prepared by new Powers’ chef Steve Elliott. Steve had us dining to the
nines on crab legs, crab claws, beef wellington and so much more…my mouth
waters just thinking about the spread of food.
The following week was Christmas and I traveled home to my hometown of
Bethalto (Ill.) to spend a week with family and friends. My break was very lazy
and relaxing! I had to take advantage of it because I knew once 2008 hit, it
would be go, go, go again!
For New Year’s, I ventured up to Temperance, Mich., just outside of Toledo
for Mark and Kay Gundrum’s third annual New Year’s Eve party. Again, it is
sort of a mini-reunion of all us old ASA employees, as well as current ARCA
employees, where Mark works at now. Kay always fixes us one last hearty meal
of the year before we start celebrating the new year to come. Without getting
into too much detail about the party, I can sum it up with this one phrase, “
a good time was had by all!??
Then, it was back to work on January 2, continuing to prepare everything for
this race season. The off-season is a popular time for racers from all
different genres and parts of the country to seek out sponsorship. Since
November, I have been compiling the sponsorship information I receive in the mail
and via e-mail from everyone. Now the process of communicating with everyone
has begun. So, if you sent me and e-mail or proposal through the website or
in the mail, I will be in touch with you soon.
This weekend is the 22nd annual Chili Bowl midget race in Tulsa, Okla. I
am a little torn I decided not to travel down there, but am also looking
forward to spending another quiet weekend at home. As I write this, according to
NHRA.com, there are only 29 days, 19 hours and 53 minutes until the first
NHRA race in Pomona, Calif. And once season starts, I rarely have a free
weekend at home, so I am going to enjoy them while I can.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a safe New Year. Everyone at
Ringers looks forward to seeing everyone again at a track near you sometime soon
in ‘08!
