MEDIA ADVISORY Contact: Bill Bronrott, 202-270-4415 DON BEYER VOLVO AND CLEAN CURRENTS TO LAUNCH “GREEN YOUR DRIVE?? -- First in region program to offset vehicle carbon emissions with 100 percent clean renewable energy credits for every car sold at Don Beyer Volvo dealerships in Falls Church, Alexandria, Dulles and Winchester. WHAT: NEWS CONFERENCE to launch the new Don Beyer Volvo “Green Your Drive?? collaborative program with Clean Currents, LLC. For every car sold at its Falls Church, Alexandria, Dulles and Winchester showrooms, Don Beyer Volvo will purchase enough Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) through Clean Currents to offset each vehicle’s estimated first year of carbon emissions. The 100 percent wind powered RECs will offset nearly 15,000 pounds of carbon emissions per vehicle per year. A Don Beyer Volvo customer will be able to choose a “green upgrade?? option to extend the purchase of RECs to continue offsetting their vehicle’s carbon emissions in years two through five. Don Beyer Volvo is one of the only wind powered auto dealerships in the DC region. Scientists warn that if we do not reduce our greenhouse gas emissions dramatically over the next decade, it may be too late to prevent the worst impacts of global warming and climate change. Carbon dioxide, produced from fossil fuel combustion, is the most prevalent greenhouse gas. Switching to clean energy sources with zero carbon emissions such as wind and solar power is a vitally important way to make the economic and societal changes needed to fight global warming. “Greening Your Drive?? with Don Beyer Volvo and Clean Currents is one way to contribute to the greening of the nation’s power grid with clean energy.
