Off Road Experiences Await in 2008 with Sandy Korners Adventure Tours
(MEARS, Mich) - Create memories that will last a lifetime this year as you
experience the ultimate Michigan get-away in the heart of the Silver Lake
Sand Dunes. For more than 25 years, Sandy Korners has been the authority on
experiential vacation activities in West Michigan, with a long-standing
reputation for providing unparalleled hands-on adventures generation after
generation.
"We believe we have a unique thing here," said Jack Warfield, who along with
his wife Alice, launched Sandy Korners more than 25 years ago. "Our goal is
to provide individuals, families and groups with an experience like no other
- under the safest possible conditions. We want people leaving here with a
real sense of what Michigan's great outdoors is all about and the wonderful
possibilities it has to offer if you just get off the beaten path."
A caravan of climate-controlled Jeep Wrangler Rubicans, following the guide
from Sandy Korners, heads out of town following sometimes paved and often
unpaved routes. A smooth transition to 4WD becomes second nature after the
first half an hour on the trail. It's "tops off" for the Jeeps whenever
weather permits - which adds to the overall wind-in-your-face experience.
During the spring and summer, the following adventures await:
* Two Hour Trail Ride - This adventure, through the Pere Marquette State
Forest, provides an opportunity to have the whole family immersed in the
pure Michigan wilderness - safely. Driving through picturesque wooded
trails, everyone will experience a little taste of off-roading fun, possibly
some mud, and maybe even a glimpse of Michigan wildlife. ($150 per Jeep;
each Jeep can hold 4 adults or 2 adults/3 children. Offered weekends April
5-May 17, daily May 19-November 2).
* Five-Hour Trail Ride - Those looking for a little more adventure (topped
off with a scoop or two of ice cream at Whiskey Creek Campground) will enjoy
this adventure through the Huron/Manistee National Forest. Drive into the
woods, soak up the scenery, challenge your off-roading skills and maybe even
submerge yourself through a couple mud holes. Wildlife, such as deer,
badgers, turkeys, bear or even cougars, can be seen along this route. Pit
stops - with modern restroom facilities - are planned along the way. This is
an ideal excursion for couples, families, groups and corporate outings.
($250 per Jeep; each Jeep can hold 4 adults or 2 adults/3 children. Offered
weekends May 17-June 8; daily June 9-Labor Day).
* Sunset Trail Ride - A glorious way to end the day in one of the most
beautiful places on earth. The 2.5-hour excursion starts with a trip to the
Lake Michigan shoreline to watch the spectacular sunset, followed by an
evening trek through the Pere Marquette State Forest where sightings of
deer, raccoons, possum and sometimes, even an occasional cougar, are
reported. ($175 per Jeep; each Jeep can hold 4 adults or 2 adults/3
children. Offered July 1 through Labor Day).
* Fireworks Trail Ride - Celebrate the Nation's birthday in style, with a
patriotic show of fireworks, followed by an evening tour through the Pere
Marquette State Forest in search of night birds and animals. The entire
adventure lasts about 2.5 hours. ($175 per Jeep; each Jeep can hold 4 adults
or 2 adults/3 children. Offered July 3-4).
The fall brings a whole new color to the Jeep tours. Both the two and five
hour trips turn into great color tours as you maneuver your way through the
maple and oak forests that abound throughout the region.
* Two Day Fall Color Adventure - This 243-mile excursion travels along the
colorful logging roads of the Manistee National Forest, through some the
most scenic regions of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. Enjoy panoramic vistas
and trails along historic rivers like the Pere Marquette, Pine and Manistee.
This two day adventure includes two meals, one night's lodging in Cadillac
and the tour. ($275 per person based on 2 people per Jeep; $175 per child,
age 10 and under. Offered every weekend, September 27 through November 2).
* Four Day Lake Superior Color Adventure - Those who can't get enough of
Autumn in Northern Michigan will want to take advantage of this tour to the
pristine Lake Superior region. You will visit the historic Whitefish Point
Light Station, experience the sand blows along Lake Superior and jokingly
try to find the 'beaver dam.' The package includes four nights
accommodations in rustic cabins at an historic 100 year old lodge,
overlooking a private lake, and seven generous meals served family style.
($595 per person, based on 2 people per Jeep; $175 per child, age 10 and
under. Offered October 5-9).
The ultimate in Northern Michigan off-roading can be found during this
four-day trek to Drummond Island in the Upper Peninsula. Four days and three
nights of driving through some of the most outstanding wilderness await you.
You will drive through water and mud and over rocks. If you get stuck, your
caravan of Jeeps will be there to help pull you out. This white-knuckle
driving adventure is not an excursion for back seat passengers. Packages
include three nights accommodations, eight meals and the tour. ($695 per
person, based on 2 people per Jeep. Offered September 12-15).
Drivers must be at least 16 years of age with a full drivers license and a
parent in the vehicle. While no security deposit is required for any of the
Adventure Tours, reservations are strongly encouraged because of the high
popularity of the tours. Car seats are available for the youngest of
passengers, at no charge.
No matter which tour fits your style on any give day, you're sure to have an
adventure of a lifetime. Coupled with the magnificent natural surroundings
and the impeccable services of the Sandy Korners staff, you'll may find this
to be just the beginning of a along-standing "must do" on your travel
itinerary each year.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The Blessing of the Jeeps (May 2-4, 2008)
On Saturday, May 3, Sandy Korners leads private Jeeps on an afternoon scenic
trail into the Huron Manistee National Forest. This trail ride is must one
of the weekend events, organized by the Cadillac Jeepers. In 2007, more than
500 Jeeps turned out for the celebration.
