'Dancing for Toyotas Contest' Lets Contestants Dance the Night Away...and Drive Away

WASHINGTON, Dec. 28, 2007 -- The 2008 Washington Auto Show is putting a new spin on car giveaways -- a spin around the dance floor, that is. For the first time ever, the show's "Dancing for Toyotas Contest" will give attendees the chance to go "dancing for the cars" in a thrilling live reality show.

The Dancing for Toyotas Contest will transform part of the show, held Jan. 23 to Jan. 27 at the Washington Convention Center, from a car showroom to a dance ballroom when contestants compete for one of three brand-new Toyotas. Paired with professional dance instructors from the Arthur Murray Dance Studios, contestants in three age categories will show their best moves to a panel of judges -- and to an audience of hundreds of thousands, who will be able to vote for their favorites and possibly win a Toyota of their own.

The contest kicks off on a spectacular 45-foot stage on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 23. Each night from Wednesday through Friday, contestants in one of three age categories will compete in a dance-off, performing in whatever dance style -- from the fox-trot to the cha-cha -- that the judges assign. The contestants, who were selected from video audition tapes by a team of judges, have been practicing their routines for weeks with their partners from the Arthur Murray Dance Studios.

The contest will come to a sensational close on Saturday, Jan. 26, in a showcase complete with special performances and the announcement of the winners by a celebrity judge.

The deadline for submitting videos for audition is Friday, Jan. 4.

Sponsored by the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association, The Washington Auto Show, now in its 66th edition, will showcase more than 700 new cars, trucks, mini-vans and sport utility vehicles from over 42 domestic and foreign manufacturers.
