Dynamic Storm System Brings Snow to the Great Lakes and Northern New England
New Year's Day Temperatures Expected to Drop Ten to Twenty Degrees
State College, Pa. -- December 28, 2007 -- AccuWeather.com reports a dynamic storm system is organizing in the Plains and Midwest today. The storm will spread three to six inches of snow from northern Missouri to southeastern Wisconsin. Chicago is likely to receive more than three inches of snow, while Detroit will receive one to three inches before the storm moves into the Northeast. The snow could snarl air and road travel one day after blowing snow forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights at Denver International Airport.
Much of the Northeast will enjoy a brief break from the precipitation before the next storm arrives by tonight, bringing rain to most of the region and snow to northern New England.
By Friday afternoon, snow will spread into Michigan and continue at a moderate to heavy rain Friday night through Ontario and southern Quebec. Lighter snow will fall across northern New York, but as much as six inches may accumulate near the northern border. Moderate to heavy snow will fall across northern New England with as much as ten inches possible in northern Maine.
Another storm is forecast to arrive in the Northeast Sunday, followed by a brief blast of cold air that will help to usher in the New Year. Highs on New Year's Day in the Northeast could be ten to 20 degrees colder than today.
