SCCA (TOPEKA, KS.) - G Production and Spec Miata Air Wednesday on SPEED
G Production and Spec Miata Air Wednesday on SPEED The diversity of G Production meets the excitement of Spec Miata, as SCCA National Championship Runoffs programming continues Wednesday, Dec. 19, on SPEED.
Beginning at noon (EST), Jay Marlowe's No. 21 TRD/Goodyear/LNA Enterprises Toyota Corolla grabs the early G Production lead from polesitter and defending Champion Chuck Mathis in his No. 54 247-parts.com/Hoosier/GroundControl Volkswagen Rabbit. Marlowe proceeds to open a gap on the rest of the field, but his hard work is erased when the race is halted to remove a disabled car. On the lap five restart, Mathis tries to keep pace, but Marlowe appears untouchable.
Next, at 1 p.m., Spec Miata takes the track at Heartland Park Topeka. Defending National Champion Andrew Caddell starts on pole in his No. 30 Saferacer.com Mazda Miata, and takes the early lead with the No. 4 HooverSpeed Mazda Miata of Brad Rampelberg in tow. Running neck-and-neck, all it takes is a slight bobble from Caddell on lap four to hand the lead over to Rampelberg. Not long after the lead change, the race comes to a stop to retrieve two cars from the Turn Nine area. Once the cleanup is complete, it's a 10-minute sprint to the end for Rampelberg and Caddell. In true Spec Miata fashion, this race comes down to the last lap.
Spec Miata fans will want to stayed tuned to SPEED, because the SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup doubleheader at the Grand Prix of Cleveland follows at 2 p.m, with Caddell on the pole for race one.
The G Production and Spec Miata races will re-air at 3 and 4 a.m., respectively, on Thursday, Dec. 20.
