Traffic.com Offers Good News for the Bay Area's Holiday Shopping Procrastinators

WAYNE, Pa., Dec. 13, 2007 -- Traffic.com, a NAVTEQ company , and a leading provider of traffic solutions to consumers and businesses, provides online and on-the-go solutions to help holiday celebrants get to their destinations faster. In looking at traffic trends for the Bay Area, Traffic.com has some good news to share with folks who procrastinate holiday shopping. "Historical traffic trends culled from our road sensors show that traffic has already spiked for the year, with peak periods in September and the two weeks following Thanksgiving," commented John MacLeod, executive vice president for NAVTEQ.

The traffic news only gets better: with Christmas falling on a Tuesday this year, there may not be the traditional last gasp of holiday traffic as many Bay Area workers will take Monday the 24th off from work, making the traffic flow more even on a day where there would normally be a commute hour congestion spike. "Whether you are shopping for a holiday gift or just going to a movie -- traffic will likely be better than expected, even during the remaining December weekends," added MacLeod. Despite this rosy traffic prediction, it's still a good idea for Bay Area drivers to check out Traffic.com before they hit the highways however. One highway accident can still have a slowing effect on any road trip.
