Andy Hillenburg’s Fast Track School Adds Rockingham, Offers
Introductory Specials
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Fast Track High Performance Driving School, one of
the premiere stock car racing schools, has added Rockingham Speedway
as its marquee location. To celebrate the event, Fast Track has added
special introductory pricing for the Rockingham facility.
These specials help celebrate the return of racing to the historic
Sandhills, N.C. region track. The schools make a perfect holiday gift
for the racer or fan on your gift list. “Rockingham is an ideal
learning track,” said Andy Hillenburg, owner of the school. “It
drives almost like a road course, plus the turns are fast and the
banking is steep enough for you to really feel the Gs.
“’Real’ drivers always loved to race and win at Rockingham,” he
continued, adding that the track’s infield road course will continue
to be used for schools and for club racing, with SCCA, BMW club and
Porsche clubs all making use of the tricky 1.5-mile combination course.
Hillenburg’s Fast Track is working with Future Stars in Racing Driver
Training & Development Academy (http://www.futurestarsinracing.com)
in helping train young drivers. The Academy focuses on all the
outside the car skills needed in today’s highly competitive racing
world – media relations, PR and how to deal with the public.
Hillenburg recently purchased the history-rich one-mile oval track
and is already planning on big things for the future, starting with
an ARCA race on the calendar Sunday, May 4th. “Racing has been gone
from Rockingham way too long,” said Hillenburg, 1995 ARCA RE/MAX
Series champion and one of only a few drivers who have raced in both
the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500.
“We’re really looking forward to hosting the Carolina 500 and making
this race one of the cornerstones of the ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule
as well as the marquee event for Rockingham Speedway.”
The race returns the original race names from those held at the track
and from its distance: 500 kilometers or 312 miles. ARCA stars have
raced one other time at Rockingham, in 1973, with Charlie Glotzbach
winning that 300-mile race.
The USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series will bring their touring race
excitement to Rockingham as well in the Fall, with the American 200.
This will be the only race on a track of one-mile in length for the
Pro Cup Series and will close the season, allowing the champion to be
crowned at the finale. “With this being the final race of the season,
we will crown a champion in a brilliant race series,” Hillenburg said
about the Hooters Pro Cup event scheduled for the speedway. “We are
ecstatic that it is the final race of their season.”
