GRAND AM (DAYTONA, FLA.) - Grand-Am Rolex Series Drivers Gurney, Fogarty, and Pruett Sweep First Team All-America Honors In Road Racing

Alex Gurney, Jon Fogarty, Scott Pruett and Max Angelelli battled to the season’s final laps for the 2007 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Daytona Prototype championship. Each of the four Daytona Prototype drivers has been recognized for their accomplishments with selections to the 2007 All-America Auto Racing Team as selected by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA).

The Rolex Series made a clean sweep of the First Team All-Americas in the “Road Racing” category. Gurney and Fogarty, the 2007 Rolex Series Daytona Prototype co-Champions in the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley, earned their initial First Team All-America awards and were joined on the team by fellow championship competitor Pruett. Fogarty previously earned an honorable mention selection in 2004 after capturing the then-Toyota Atlantic Championship.

For the third season in a row, the first- and second-place finishers in the Daytona Prototype class each garnered first team All-American awards. Pruett’s fifth consecutive First Team selection marked his ninth total in his illustrious driving career. Only luminaries Steve Kinser (18), John Force (14) and Don Garlits (10) have earned more First Team selections, while only Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart match Pruett’s nine honors.

Angelelli, a First Team pick with Wayne Taylor following their championship in 2005, garnered an Honorable Mention nod for his 2007 efforts behind the wheel of the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley. Angelelli also earned a second-team nomination in 2006.

Jimmie Johnson, the back-to-back NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion who has signed on to run the Rolex 24 At Daytona with Gurney and Fogarty in the No. 99 machine, joined his future Rolex teammates among the 16 First Team selections in Stock Car, Open Wheel, Road Racing, Drag Racing, Short Track, Touring Series and At Large categories.
