REDWOOD SHORES, CA - December 5, 2007: GreenRoad Technologies, Inc., a leader in driver safety technologies, today announced that AAA Colorado has selected GreenRoad Safety Center for a study to help improve teen driver safety. During the six-month study, Safety Center will be installed in 200 AAA Colorado member teen drivers' cars, with the goal of identifying and reducing risky driving behavior. AAA Colorado's goal is to promote driving safety among parents and teens by providing a tool that shows how teens are driving, but does not invade their privacy or monitor where they are driving.
"AAA Colorado offers programs to ensure that new teen drivers are operating their vehicles as safely as possible," said AAA spokesperson, Eric Escudero. "Through our partnership with GreenRoad, we hope to change teen driving behavior and ultimately reduce teen road accidents and fatalities."
Safety Center works through a sensor in the car that detects driver skill and safety in five categories: speed, braking, acceleration, lane-handling and turning. The sensor automatically generates an instantaneous safety analysis while driving so that the driver can see, understand and adjust driving behaviors. Additionally, each trip can be viewed on the Web to show overall safety level and detailed information about areas that need improvement. Each driver is given a safety rating of green (safe), yellow (moderate) or red (aggressive).
"Statistics show that car accidents are the leading cause of deaths for teens in the United States," said Dan Steere, GreenRoad CEO. "Now technology is making it possible for us to see risky driving behavior and change it before an accident occurs. GreenRoad's mission, in partnership with AAA, is to help teens and parents take action that can ultimately save lives."
About GreenRoad
GreenRoad develops driver safety technologies that stop risky driving
before an accident occurs, and dramatically reduce crash rates for fleets
and insurance companies. Its solutions are designed to empower drivers to
manage their own safety by giving instantaneous, in-vehicle driver
coaching-without privacy invasions. Safety Center focuses on how they are
driving, not where, and does not watch the drivers with intrusive video
cameras. Over time, Safety Center has proven that it can change driver
behavior behind the wheel. The result is fewer accidents, lower accident
costs and safer drivers. For more information about GreenRoad, visit
