Last night in front of 21 million viewers on live network television and a star-studded studio audience, those same driving forces propelled two-time Indianapolis 500 race winning driver Helio Castroneves and his professional ballroom dancing partner Julianne Hough to victory on the popular "Dancing With The Stars" ABC-TV show. The couple did more than dance, as they wowed the audience and captured the hearts of America with Castroneves' charisma and their talented performances over the past ten weekly programs leading in to last night's grand finale. Castroneves and Hough chose to dance the Mambo in one final performance last night, but still trailed Spice Girl Melanie Brown and her pro partner in overall judge's points. The popular fan vote made up the difference, earning Castroneves what he calls the championship "Disco Ball Trophy." The vibrant native Brazilian said afterwards he has the spot picked out for the trophy, adding to his two Baby Borg Warner trophies earned in 2000 and 2001 for winning the Indianapolis 500. "Obviously, Indianapolis is my biggest win, but this is great. (The dancing trophy) will go right between (the Baby Borg trophies) because this has mirrors and can reflect them," he said.
